How to Submit Your Story
Anyone can be a writer for Grown-up Storytime! We've performed stories from artists, published writers, aspiring authors, and people who don't consider themselves writers at all! You don't even have to live in Houston :).
Email your story to grownupstorytimehouston@gmail.com.
- Stories should be less than 2,000 words so that it can be performed within 10 minutes.
- We review selections on the first Tuesday of each month (the due date).
- Drafts are very welcome! We're happy to work with you to hone your story into a GUST story.
- Stories should be or feel like a personal narrative. Think a story you'd tell your friend at the bar, or a story in the style of The Moth.
- You may submit anonymously if you'd like with an anonymous email. We will need to be able to contact you by the email you submit your story through.
- Submit by to be included in the show!
How to Become a Reader
Anyone can become a reader on the GUST stage! If you're looking to be a new reader, RSVP to a Reading Party and come on by. We'll get a chance to hear your style and keep your voice in mind for an upcoming story!
Next reading party is on from 7 PM till 9 PM.
- It's a very casual time, so no stress if you need to come late or leave early!
- We get to hear the submissions outloud and get a sense for how they might read on the GUST stage.
- This is also a time we gather respectful and thoughtful feedback about the stories.
- Not just for new readers! We love when returning readers can join us of course!
